The Al Jazeera Media Network is among the major media outlets in the Asia region. Established in 1996, it has since been streaming updates and the latest news to its audience for more than 25 years now. This media owner was founded by the Emir of Qatar and is based at the Qatar Radio and Television Corporation Complex in Doha, Ad-Dawhah, Qatar.

A wide reach across the world

As a media company, Al Jazeera’s programs are streamed not only in Asia but across the world. It provides a wide range of services including new media, cable network programming, television and direct-broadcast satellite services. Depending on the region and service provider, audiences are able to watch the programs aired through Al Jazeera’s network of subsidiaries like Al Jazeera Arabic, Al Jazeera English, Al Jazeera Mubasher, Al Jazeera Balkans and Al Jazeera Documentary Channel, to name a few.

From humble beginnings to a worldwide reputation

The Al Jazeera Media Network got its name from ‘The Peninsula’ of Qatar where it started out as a news channel in Arabic before growing to other areas to better serve its audience including specialty television channels that air programs in multiple languages. Known as a private foundation for public benefit, it is a stable company that is supported by the State of Qatar. To date, it has more than 70 bases globally. This makes it the second-largest in the world after the British Broadcasting Corporation.

Al Jazeera English – After the 9/11 terrorist attack, Al Jazeera began considering an English Language service.

This started to take shape in 2003 after a year of pushing for the language on its channel. Hence, that year saw the first English-language journalists being hired with the launch of the English Language website. Back in 2005, the media owner launched Al Jazeera International which features English news aired from its broadcast centers in major cities like Doha, Washington D.C, London and Kuala Lumpur. With that, it could start offering news around the clock (24/7).
