Anyone travelling on a car will tell you how much they dread having to get stuck in a traffic jam. But that is what advertisers prefer as it means that their ads (usually on billboards) will get a longer exposure and seen by its target market.
Why traffic lights are important?
Junctions are the most popular places to place billboards because that is where vehicles have to stop for a certain period of time. The average stopping time at traffic lights is 3 minutes.
Reaching the target market
Major roads are very important and crucial places for advertising because they are the ones that are used by most vehicles each day. However, the downside here is that they need to be smooth and free-flowing as much as possible. As such, the duration of an ad-view can be quiet quick. Junctions meanwhile make it better for the brand owner. Here is the list of the junctions in the Klang Valley with very high traffic.
- Lot 10 Entrance – This is one junction which has been busy for the longest time. It was once a 4-way cross-junction but has since been changed to ease traffic flow around here. Today, it is still used by thousands of pedestrians and vehicles each day.
- Wisma Genting – Jalan Raja Chulan – Further away from the Lot 10 junction, it is the main road used by vehicles coming in from Jalan Raja Chulan and the city centre into Pavilion Shopping Center towards the Prince Court Medical Centre.
- Berjaya Times Square – Right in front of the shopping mall and facing Plaza Imbi/Sg Wang Plaza, this is the spot with many vehicles stopping due to the traffic lights.
- Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka – Jalan Maharajalela – The traffic lights here are known to change too quickly, causing vehicles to stay for a long duration. Billboards here have very high visibility.
- Federal Highway – Jalan 222 – Coming in from both ends and heading into Jalan 222 and Travers, it is one of the most congested places of the highway.
- LDP Motorola Overhead Bridge – This stretch has several billboards that are elevated and very high visibility. It is also congested during rush hours.
- AEON Kepong – The crossroad in front of AEON Kepong is often jammed up due to the traffic lights. They are main connecting roads for vehicles coming from towns like Selayang, Jalan Ipoh, Menjalara and Sg Buloh from all ends.
- Federal Highway – Old Klang Road – Especially the stretch that comes in from Petaling Jaya, traffic comes to an almost standstill here. That is the reason why there are several unipole and standard billboards here, which appeal very well to the vehicles.
- Ampang Park – The crossroad in front of Ampang Park is one of the most congested since the 80s. Today, it is still very jammed up not only during rush hours but weekends and other times too.
- Shah Alam Stadium – Glenmarie – The junction leading towards the stadium coming in from Glenmarie is often traffic-jammed because it is used as an alternative by vehicles from using the trunk road coming in from Federal Highway.
