Johor Bharu is one of the most important cities in Malaysia. The capital city of southernmost state Johor, it is home to the gateway and immigration checkpoints between Malaysia and Singapore. The city centre of Johor Bharu is covered with main roads that cover the coastal areas as well as the inner regions of the city.
Coming in from Danga Bay is Jalan Skudai which then continues on as Jalan Abu Bakar that will lead to Taman Istana. This road goes along the coast that heads down south before circling upwards again into Jalan Ibrahim which will lead toward the Old Johore Bharu Checkpoint where the immigration department is located.

From there, it will then head east towards Jalan Ibrahim Sultan. Meanwhile, from Jalan Abu Bakar, there is an intersection that leads towards the inner regions of the city where it goes into Jalan Lingkaran Dalam which will then lead towards the checkpoint as well. Jalan Lingkaran Dalam will lead towards the Tebrau Highway which will head up north and eventually goes to the Pasir Gudang Highway. This can then head towards the east in which it will convene at the Hubungan Kedua Malaysia-Singapore Highway which is the alternative link towards the southern neighbor.

Eastern Dispersal Link

The Eastern Dispersal Link or EDL is located around the central parts of Johor Bahru. It is one of the major roads in JB mainly because it is directly connected to the PLUS North-South Expressway.

The EDL cuts through the city centre of JB which makes it a high-traffic road of the capital. In fact, the EDL is one of the most important roads here by virtue of its connectivity that leads directly to the CIQ (Customs, Immigration and Quarantine Complex) for those going to and coming in from Singapore.

It starts at the Pandan interchange coming from the north via the North-South Expressway. Here, vehicles from other states will use the expressway which will then continue towards Jalan Pandan towards the east and the Tebrau Highway that goes towards the west before heading southwards.

For those who are intending to get to the southern part of JB or Singapore, the EDL will then continue on which is adjacent to Sungai Tebrau. It will pass by Kampung Desa Jaya and Pasir Pelangi which will then line along the coast. The Berjaya Waterfront is located around here before EDL reaches the CIQ and then towards Komtar (Tun Abdul Razak Complex) and on to JB Sentral.

Jalan Abu Bakar

Along the southern coast of Johor Bahru is Jalan Abu Bakar. This is a main road used by many vehicles to bypass the traffic congestion in the city centre. Jalan Abu Bakar is located not far from the causeway that connects Malaysia with Singapore. It comes in from the east via Persiaran Tun Sri Lanang which joins with Jalan Abu Bakar before leading further into the state.

On the other hand, Jalan Abu Bakar goes towards the east where it joins with Jalan Tun Dr Ismail which will then join with Jalan Ibrahim before crossing the Jalan Singapore-Sultan Iskandar to join with Jalan Tanjung Puteri on the other side of JB.

This road is very nearby along the coast which is why it is quite a popular access road. Along the way, it passes by the Masjid Sultan Abu Bakar, the Majlis Agama Islam Negeri Johor, the Mahkamah Syariah Johor Bahru and then continue on towards the Panube Inn Johor. It will then convene with Jalan Lingkaran Dalam which goes up north and Jalan Skudai that leads further west.
