Why Johor Ranks No. 2 For Premium Billboard Rates

Johor has become a gateway outdoor advertising market, combining high local traffic with Singapore-linked movement, logistics demand, tourism, retail growth and scarce premium unipole inventory.

  • RM80,000 indicative lower annual range for standard Johor unipoles
  • RM800,000 potential annual rate for top-tier premium Johor unipoles
  • No. 2 Johor’s position for premium unipole market potential

Market Summary

Kuala Lumpur and the wider Klang Valley remain Malaysia’s most expensive billboard market because they concentrate national media budgets, corporate headquarters, malls, tourist zones, office workers and major commuter roads.

Johor can reasonably be positioned as the No. 2 premium unipole market because it offers something most other states cannot: exposure to both southern Malaysia and Singapore-linked movement. A strong Johor site can reach Johor Bahru residents, Singaporean visitors, Malaysians working in Singapore, logistics operators, industrial traffic, tourists, property buyers and business travellers.

Important note: The figures below are indicative median annual market estimates for premium static billboard and unipole planning. Exact site rates can vary sharply by road, authority approval, size, visibility, lighting, number of faces, concession cost and contract term.

14 Terengganu RM48,000 RM4,000 Kuala Terengganu and coastal traffic with more traditional static inventory.
15 Perlis RM36,000 RM3,000 Smallest state market with lower density and limited premium demand.
16 Labuan RM35,000 RM2,900 Small niche market with business, port, airport and duty-free audience.

Why Johor Is No. 2

Johor’s premium is driven by audience quality, not only traffic count. A good Johor unipole can carry local JB exposure and Singapore-linked exposure at the same time.

That makes Johor especially valuable for property, automotive, banking, telco, logistics, retail, healthcare, education and tourism advertisers. When the site is large, visible, scarce and positioned along a major cross-border or city corridor, the rate can move far above ordinary state-level pricing.

Johor Premium Corridors

Corridor Why It Is Valuable
Johor Bahru City Centre Dense retail, office, hotel and local service traffic.
CIQ / Causeway Approach Daily Singapore-linked commuters, visitors and business travellers.
EDL Direct movement between JB city, Causeway access and major inner-city routes.
Tebrau Highway One of JB’s busiest arterial roads, serving retail, residential and commuter traffic.
Skudai Highway Residential, university, commercial and industrial catchment.
Iskandar Puteri / Nusajaya Property, education, tourism, healthcare and family destination traffic.
Second Link / Tuas Access Singapore-linked logistics, higher-income travellers and cross-border workers.
PLUS Highway Johor Interstate traffic from KL, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan and Singapore-bound travellers.

Johor’s OOH Advertising Forecast

Johor is currently one of Malaysia’s strongest billboard markets and can be ranked No. 2 for premium unipole rates after Kuala Lumpur and the Klang Valley. While KL remains the country’s top outdoor advertising market because of its national commercial importance, Johor has become a premium OOH market because of its unique cross-border position with Singapore.

Unlike many state markets that depend mainly on local city traffic, Johor offers advertisers access to several valuable audiences at the same time. A strong Johor billboard can reach Johor Bahru residents, Singaporean visitors, Malaysians commuting to Singapore, logistics operators, tourists, property buyers, industrial workers and business travellers.

Rates in Johor can start from around RM80,000 per year for standard unipole locations and can rise up to RM800,000 per year for premium unipoles. The highest rates are usually attached to large-format, highly visible sites along major routes such as Johor Bahru city corridors, Tebrau Highway, Skudai Highway, EDL, CIQ approach roads, Second Link access, Iskandar Puteri, Nusajaya and selected PLUS Highway stretches.

In short, Johor’s premium is driven by traffic volume, audience quality, limited supply and strategic location. It gives advertisers a rare combination of local reach, regional gateway value and Singapore-linked exposure.
