The Klang Valley, made up of Kuala Lumpur and major locations of Selangor like Ampang and Petaling Jaya is perhaps the most attractive place for advertisers as they provide a lot of opportunities for advertising in various forms and platforms.

The population and demographics of the Klang Valley is very unique because different locations have a different group of community groups. This includes the ethnic segmentation, gender, income groups and such which means advertisers will need to be mindful of who they are reaching when sending out their brand messaging. Below are some of the locations in the Klang Valley with the highest density.

Petaling Jaya and Subang Jaya

These are 2 of the most prominent satellite cities of the Klang Valley. They are connected to the city of Kuala Lumpur via the Federal Highway and KESAS Highway which makes these expressways popular outdoor billboard options. Within the 2 suburbs are:

  • USJ-Taipan – A close-knitted community of the people around the USJ and Subang Jaya vicinity, the Taipan area is always bustling with activities and people who come here for work, entertainment and food.
  • New Town – State PJ – Hotel Armada – This enclave that covers 2 LRT stations (Taman Jaya and Asia Jaya) is a highly dense placed with a lot of people who come here for work and other matters. There are offices, banks and government departments like Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan and the Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara.
  • SS2 – Kelana Jaya – Connected by the LDP, SS2 is an attractive address for residents while the commercial square has the food court, banks and offices. Towards Kelana Jaya and SS3, you will notice several high pole billboards along the way towards Paradigm Mall. SS2 has a healthy mix of profiles making up of families, expatriates while Kelana Jaya is made up mostly of locals.
  • Damansara – Bandar Utama – 2 of the most highly populated areas, Damansara is made up of Damansara Jaya, Damansara Uptown, Kota Damansara and Damansara Heights while Bandar Utama in itself has its own park, shopping mall, condominiums and residential homes.
  • Shah Alam – Klang – Both locations are known to house their own respective groups of customer profiles, they are have their own congested areas such as the Shah Alam city centre and Jalan Kapah in Klang. Both these locations are the nucleus of the satellite cities, offering a wide range of amenities and services such as banks, restaurants and others.

City Center and Surroundings

  • KL Sentral – Little India – Central Market – KL Sentral is the main transportation hub of the Klang Valley and is one of the most rapidly-developed places here. It is within walking distance to the Central Market area which covers Dataran Merdeka, which are both very highly populated areas. Little India (or Brickfields) is a popular place resided by the Indian community that houses several religious places.
  • Bukit Bintang – KLCC – Ampang – This covers most of what is known as the Golden Triangle. There are a lot of residents around Imbi, Pudu and Ceylon areas. Suffice to say, the whole area is always filled with pedestrians who are tourists as well as locals. Bukit Bintang has often been associated with being the shopping destination for both locals and tourists. KLCC meanwhile is dense with both residents (high income), office workers and tourists while Ampang has a large community of expatriates.

Southern Klang Valley

Around the southern part of Klang Valley, a few residential areas stand out because they operate within their own eco-systems. These locations are highly populated, with a majority of people belonging to a certain demographic group.

  • Sri Petaling – Bukit Jalil – The whole location of these 2 suburbs are connected and very dense. However, they are mostly focused on the Jalan Radin Bagus square area (formerly The Store Supermarket. This place recently underwent a makeover and is now lined up with pubs, restaurants and other outlets.
  • Cheras – Maluri – Old Pudu – Known to house hundreds of residential areas, the places around Taman Cheras and Maluri have been developing rapidly of late. With Sunway Velocity Shopping Centre, MyTown Shopping Centre and IKEA opening, it has brought about more people here and elevated the profile as well. Besides that, Cheras also encompasses the Pandan Indah – Pandan Jaya areas which are known to be highly dense.
