Australian High Commission
Advancing the National Interest is the Government’s – and Australia’s – second foreign and trade policy White Paper. It is a comprehensive assessment of Australia’s place in the world and articulation of the Government’s strategies to protect and promote the security and prosperity of Australia and the people.
Australian Government Foreign Trade policy
The Australian Government’s ambitious trade policy is geared towards increasing economic activity, creating jobs and getting a fair deal for Australia in the international marketplace. This all adds up to more jobs, more choice for consumers, and a higher standard of living for all Australians.

Assistance in Malaysia
The Australian Trade Commission (Austrade) is the Australian Government agency that helps Australian companies win overseas business for their products and services. We offer practical advice, market intelligence and ongoing support (including financial) to Australian businesses looking to develop international markets. We also provide advice and guidance on overseas investment and joint venture opportunities in countries such as Malaysia. Austrade’s strength is that its office in Malaysia has a combination of highly skilled local business development staff and Australian representatives who understand Australian business.
For Malaysian Businesses, Austrade can:
- provide buyers with up-to-date advice on Australia’s supply capability across a wide range of products, services and technology;
- match buyers with Australian suppliers. Buyers are asked to provide some key data about their company and their needs so that the best possible connections with potential Australian suppliers can be made using Austrade’s extensive electronic data-base of export ready companies;
- assist Malaysian companies who may be seeking to represent or establish strategic alliances with Australian suppliers in their local markets, including restaurant system supplier
“Australian Suppliers Database” has large numbers of potential Australian suppliers.
Scott Caithness, Senior Trade Commissioner, Kuala Lumpur, undertakes overall management and responsibility for Austrade in Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam.
