Background of Rocky Bru
Rocky Bru’s blog is the brainchild of Datuk Ahirudin who is no stranger to the Malaysian publications scene. He is a renowned Malaysian blogger and a former editor with some of the top publications in the country like The Malay Mail, The Sunday Mail and Business Times, which are part of the NSTP (New Straits Times Publications). Started out in 1985 with Business Times, he would become the London correspondent for the group later in 1993.
In 1997, he becamethe editor for Business Times before taking up the Acting Editor post with The Malay Mail in 2001. 3 years later, he was appointed as Executive Editor for The Malay Mail and The Sunday Mail. In 2006, he left the group after serving for more than 20 years.
Moving into a neutral space
Other positions that he held include being the President of the National Press Club between 2003 and 2007. In 2007, Datuk Ahirudin was appointed as the President of the National Bloggers Alliance.
Rocky Bru started out in 2006 which was going to be Datuk Ahirudin’s continued efforts into journalism. His blog drew a lot of attention so much that NSTP attempted to block its growthincluding a lawsuit against him. To date, his blog site has garnered much traction where it reportedly has more than 33 million page views.
