Capital FM is a Kuala Lumpur-based radio station that airs in the English Language. It was previously owned and managed by the Star Media Group, it is part of the network that also airs other channels like Red FM, Suria FM and 988 FM. Collectively, the group of radio stations was one of the alternatives for radio listeners to the others operated by Astro before the acquisition.
Background of Capital FM
Capital FM started airing in December 2011 which was then targeted at women between 25 and 34 years of age.
Capital FM was the station for stylish and modern women living in urban areas across the country.
This was a unique segment and would become a women-centric radio station that airs in the English Language.
Offering the platform for women to voice their opinions and share their sentiments, provided a unique and different concept to radio entertainment at that time.
Takeover by Astro
Capital FM was vibrantly active until October 2015 when it started to stop its programs due to the acquisition exercise by Astro Radio. With a CASP or Content Applications Service Provider Individual license, Capital FM continued its broadcast without any DJs. A year later, Astro bought over Capital FM together with Red FM with plans to rebrand the 2 stations. This would see Capital FM being replaced with GoXuan while Zayan replaced Red FM.
During the times of its broadcast, Capital FM could be listened to throughout the Klang Valley, in South Perak, the western region of Pahang and the northern parts of Negeri Sembilan.
